“It is the ultimate luxury to combine passion and contribution. It’s also a very clear path to happiness.” Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Facebook
NAVIS is very much defined by a staff of people with a unique combination of passion for their work and dedication to the community. Whether NAVIS employees are out in our hometown of Bend for service projects or hosting non-profit organizations at our offices, as we recently did with ChickTech, this love for what we do always shows through.
NAVIS was honored to host a ChickTech workshop and lunch this summer for a group of young women exploring various paths to technology careers. As part of the workshop, the tech-aspiring students were introduced to the many female professionals working throughout the company in roles as engineers, technicians, and software developers. The Tech Career Pathway workshop included tours, demonstrations, a Q/A session, and an opportunity to talk to the VP of Engineering as well as the VP of Product Solutions. The ChickTech event was just as inspiring to the NAVIS team as we hope it was for the bright young women who attended.
Amber Mayer, VP of Product Solutions, said, “NAVIS relies on many smart, very tech-savvy women to develop and roll out our products. We have a strong mission of giving back to the community, and it’s a privilege to welcome and inspire young women in the field while they consider their future options.”
ChickTech provides community, education, and inspiration to female-identifying students to broaden participation in tech and provide equitable opportunities to all. The organization believes that providing access to career opportunities in technology for young women is critical, both to their lives and the industry. ChickTech offers summer camps, a year-long high school program, and a new college program to provide a supportive and welcoming environment for young women to explore technology, now and in the future.
“Most companies these days are tech companies on some level since every industry relies on core technologies to do business. As such, we believe equity in the technology field is critical for the future of business. NAVIS offers a stellar example of the contribution that women can make in an industry that has been historically male-dominated,” said Mayer.
